2020 GMC Sierra HD tows 30000 pounds has Xray camera tech

first_imgIn one of the bigger unveil events of the year, General Motor’s GMC premium truck and SUV brand has just revealed its new 2020 GMC Sierra HD. The heavy-duty, full-size pickup is touted as “the crown jewel of the GMC lineup” and the model that most lives up to the brand’s “Professional Grade” motto, so it’s important that they get it right with this new generation.Let’s cut right to the most important detail you need to know about the 2020 GMC Sierra HD: when properly equipped, it has an estimated towing capacity in excess of 30,000 pounds. If you could find a trailer big enough to carry an F-250 Super Duty, a Nissan Titan XD and the previous generation Sierra HD, this new 2020 Sierra HD could tow ’em all. That’s like two African elephants (or 3,000 cats) worth of mass; we’re talking serious pulling power. 2020 GMC Sierra 1500 first drive: Diesel power and upgraded tech GMC also brings its MultiPro tailgate from the smaller Sierra to the HD party. This soft-opening tailgate has a smaller tailgate nested within it that allows a total of six functions including full-open, half-open, easy access, step-up and extended loading modes. The bed also features box steps on all sides, 12 tie-down points and an available in-bed 120-volt outlet. Inside, the Sierra’s dashboard is home to the familiar GMC Infotainment System — a dark reskin of General Motors’ MyLink/IntelliLink software — featuring snappy navigation, 4G LTE and Wi-Fi connectivity, and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility. Like other Sierra and Silverado models, the Sierra HD will also feature available USB-A and USB-C ports, 120-volt outlets and available wireless charging to keep any devices onboard juiced up. Denali and AT4 GMC tells us that more than half of the Sierras it sells are the pricier, premium Denali trim level. So, the 2020 Sierra HD will step up its game to appeal to those buyers with premium leather seating, open-pore real wood trim and dark-finish aluminum details. New for 2020 is an off-road focused AT4 trim level that matches trail-busting capability with the Sierra HD’s heavy-duty capacities. The Sierra HD AT4 will feature an off-road suspension with Rancho Shocks, an Eaton locking rear differential, skid plates and, of course, bright red tow hooks. The rubber meets the dirt road at 18-inch wheels — or optional 20s — wrapped in Michelin all-terrain tires. 2020 GMC Sierra HDThe heavy-hauling 2020 GMC Sierra 2500HD and 3500HD will hit the road later this year in premium Denali and new AT4 trim levels. GMC In addition to the hardware, the AT4 will also get a special off-road software setting for its Traction Select System with hill descent control and hill start assist features. The Sierra’s 15-inch head-up display gets augmented with an off-road inclinometer that shows how severely you’re ascending or descending at a glance and a standard surround-vision camera helps the driver spot the vehicle’s surroundings on tight trails. The 2020 Sierra HD goes on sale later this year in 2500HD and 3500HD dually and single rear wheel configurations. Pricing, packaging and more complete specifications will be announced later closer to launch. Thanks to improved breathing and cooling, the Duramax is now good for 445 horsepower and a whopping 910 pound-feet of torque, which can be put to the road with better control thanks to the transmission’s close-spaced gear ratios. Towing, you may have guessed, is a big reason people consider heavy-duty pickups, so GMC has loaded the Sierra HD with a laundry list of trailering technologies and electronic traction and stability control acronyms and even integrations with the ProGrade Trailering System’s in-vehicle Trailering App.  By stitching together multiple camera views, the 2020 GMC Sierra HD’s Transparent Trailer feature can see through a towed payload. GMC I’m most impressed, however, by the new camera-based trailering technologies. The Sierra HD boasts a ridiculous 15 selectable camera views and a class-first Rear Camera Mirror that allow the driver to get the best view of the road around the large pickup and its payload. None of those 15 views is more impressive than the “Transparent Trailer” mode that stitches together views from two tailgate cameras and an accessory remote camera mounted at the back of the trailer to make the trailer appear invisible when viewed through the dashboard display. It’s like your very own x-ray machine that lets you see through the trailer you’re towing.Easier to work and live with Aesthetically, the Sierra HD is looking pretty good, leading off with a grille and headlamp design that’s much less… divisive than its recently debuted cousin, the Chevrolet Silverado HD. The Sierra HD’s C-shaped LED light signature doesn’t differ too much from the standard-scale Sierra, but its grille is significantly beefier. That grille isn’t the only thing that’s larger. The 2020 Sierra HD is longer with a taller hoodline than the 2019 model, which gives it a more imposing look. However, GMC has designed the Sierra HD to be more approachable and easier to live with, thanks to details like a 1-inch lower bed height that makes for easier loading. last_img read more

Lebanon PM Hariri leaves Riyadh for France

first_imgA poster of Lebanese prime minister Saad Hariri is seen hanging on a pole in the capital Beirut on 17 November 2017. AFPLebanese prime minister Saad Hariri on Saturday left Saudi Arabia for France, in a move aimed at defusing political turmoil sparked by his shock resignation in Riyadh. The Lebanese premier and his wife were due to meet French president Emmanuel Macron in Paris after allegations from Hariri’s political rivals in Lebanon that he was essentially being held hostage by the Saudi authorities.“Mr Hariri left Riyadh airport on his private jet with his wife and is headed for Le Bourget airport”, north-east of Paris, announced Future TV, a television channel owned by Hariri’s family, without specifying if the couple were accompanied by their children. They are expected to arrive around 7:00am, the flight schedule said according to a source close to Hariri. The departure of Hariri, 47, came after he met French foreign minister Jean-Yves Le Drian in Riyadh Thursday as Lebanon’s former colonial power Paris tries to ease a crisis that has driven up tensions between regional rivals Iran and Saudi Arabia. In a further escalation of the situation, Saudi state media said Saturday the country had recalled its ambassador to Berlin in protest over comments made by the German foreign minister Sigmar Gabriel perceived as suggesting Hariri had been held against his will in Riyadh.Hariri, a dual Saudi citizen, has been in the Saudi capital since his televised announcement there on 4 November that he was stepping down because he feared for his life, accusing Iran and its Lebanese ally Hezbollah of destabilising his country. The announcement-which reportedly took even some of Hariri’s closest aides by surprise-and his subsequent failure to return home to quit officially in person, fuelled claims that he was acting under orders from his Saudi patrons. But shortly before leaving Riyadh for Paris, Hariri said in a tweet addressed to Gabriel that it was untrue he was being held in Saudi.“To say that I am held up in Saudi Arabia and not allowed to leave the country is a lie. I am on the way to the airport,” Hariri tweeted.Gabriel on Thursday said he shared the concern about the threat of instability and bloodshed in Lebanon and, without mentioning Saudi Arabia directly, warned against the “adventurism” behind the Lebanon crisis.Earlier in the week Gabriel had said: “Lebanon has earned the right to decide on its fate by itself and not become a pinball of Syria or Saudi Arabia or other national interests”.‘Start of a solution’Prior to Hariri’s departure, Lebanese president Michel Aoun-a Hezbollah ally who had accused Saudi Arabia of “detaining” the prime minister and refused to accept his resignation from abroad-welcomed the announcement of the trip to Paris.“We hope that the crisis is over and Hariri’s acceptance of the invitation to go to France is the start of a solution,” he said Thursday on the official presidential Twitter account.“If Mr. Hariri speaks from France, I would consider that he speaks freely, but his resignation must be presented in Lebanon, and he will have to remain there until the formation of the new government,” Aoun said later in a statement issued by his office.Macron said he will host Hariri with the honours due to a prime minister when they meet at noon on Saturday, with his family set to join them later for lunch. There is no indication what Hariri plans to do after visiting Macron, but the French leader has insisted he would then be free to return to Lebanon to either formally resign or rethink his decision.France’s intervention was the latest in a string of European efforts to defuse tensions over Lebanon, where divisions between Sunni Hariri’s bloc and Shiite Hezbollah have long been a focal point in a broader struggle between Riyadh and Tehran.Hariri-whose father, ex-prime minister Rafik Hariri, was killed in a 2005 car bombing blamed on Hezbollah-became head of a shaky compromise government including the group last year.Lebanon’s Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil, from a rival bloc to Hariri’s, on Friday during a visit to Moscow blasted unnamed groups for seeking to “dislodge the Lebanese head of state”.Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister Adel al-Jubeir insisted from Madrid that “unless Hezbollah disarms and becomes a political party, Lebanon will be held hostage by Hezbollah and by extension Iran”.Hariri’s resignation comes amid a sharp escalation in the long-standing rivalry between Saudi Arabia and Iran, as Riyadh undergoes a major shake-up under ambitious Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman.Riyadh and Tehran back opposing sides in the protracted wars in Yemen and Syria-entangling them in a complex web of proxy conflicts.last_img read more
